A Neural System for Scale and Orientation Invariant Correspondence Finding

Proposing A Neural Mechanism. Transformation-tolerant recognition seems to still pose a hard challenge for artificial vision systems, as opposed to their biological counterparts. We present a neurally-plausible mechanism to establish local feature correspondences between object images at different scales and orientations while using and explicitly representing the information about the given tr...

A Scale Invariant Neural Feature Detector for Visual Homing

A novel feature detector is presented for extracting local image features which are invariant to scale. This detector is composed of simple neuron-like elements whose activation is given by the sum of their weighted inputs. These features are employed for the visual homing task and found to yield superior performance to the warping method [1] on panoramic images of an unstructured environment.

A Modal Approach to Feature-based Correspondence

We propose a novel method for performing point-feature correspondence based on a modal shape description. Introducing shape information into a low-level matching process allows our algorithm to cope easily with rotations and translations in the image plane, yet still give a dense correspondence. We also show positive results for scale changes and small skews, and demonstrate how reflectional sy...

Improved feature processing for deep neural networks

In this paper, we investigate alternative ways of processing MFCC-based features to use as the input to Deep Neural Networks (DNNs). Our baseline is a conventional feature pipeline that involves splicing the 13-dimensional front-end MFCCs across 9 frames, followed by applying LDA to reduce the dimension to 40 and then further decorrelation using MLLT. Confirming the results of other groups, we ...

Feature Analysis and Neural Network-Based Classification of Speech Under Stress [Correspondence] - Speech and Audio Processing, IEEE Transactions on

It is well known that the variability in speech production due to task-induced stress contributes significantly to loss in speech processing algorithm performance. If an algorithm could be formulated that detects the presence of stress in speech, then such knowledge could be used to monitor speaker state, improve the naturalness of speech coding algorithms, or increase the robustness of speech ...
